ABDL is a phenomenon that seems to be unique to the industrialized countries of modern world. Disposable diapers for adults were not introduced until the end of the 1970's. The earliest examples of ABDL are found in personal advertisements in old adult magazines. Later on in the 70's a few few pornographic works aimed at rubber fetishists incorporated diapers. Eventually several independent ABDL mailing lists and publications were developed. In particular "The Playpen", released in 1975 was the first magazine specifically for adult babies.
